Simple Choice

Simple Choice

It is not
what we haven’t got
it’s what we do
with what we have
that defines us

there really are
no have’s and have not’s
only those who can see
beyond this

for all of life
is filled with pain
but suffering
is however a choice

open your heart
your eyes
your mind
then rightly employ that voice

sing to the heavens
howl at the moon
mimic the quetzal’s sweet song

your days shall be bright
the most brilliant of light
shall reflect from you hither and yon

for smiles are free
they breed pleasantries
to all those
who kindly
wear them

but a frown
will always cost you
it’s a caustic milieu
when you walk
with your head
to the ground

no, it is not
what we haven’t got
it’s what we do
with what we have
that defines us

that defines us

that defines us…
